Red Rickshaw Revolution reaches Odisha

Another digital Community Information Resource Centre (dCIRC) was inaugurated by the Vodafone Foundation and Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) on 10 December 2014. This time, it was in Keonjhar, Odisha. So far, there have been seven successful inaugurations in the past ten days. The previous ones were inaugurated in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

The Chief Guest, Ms. Sarilata Prushty, Zila Parishad President, inaugurated the dCIRC. The dCIRC coordinator, trainer, representatives of Vodafone Foundation and Digital Empowerment Foundation, and volunteers greeted Ms. Prushty with a warm and traditional welcome. Ms. Prusty took a round of the centre while the coordinator and the trainer explained how the centre will work. After the inauguration, Ms. Prushty and and Ms. Chudaman Naik, Sarpanch of Oriya Gram Panchayat, were taken to a cultural show in a red coloured rickshaw, which is symbolic of the Red Rickshaw Revolution's digital journey.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Bedabyasa Nayak, MLA of Telkoi Block who also graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, Mr. Suresh Ch. Pradhan, Block Development Officer of Telkoi, Mr. Bagun Champia, Block Chairman of Telkoi, Ms. Dharitri Raut, Secretary of WOSCA in Keonjhar, Mr Mansing Durga Prasad Nayak from WOSCA, Mr Lalit Mahara from Vodafone Foundation, Ms. Chitra Chauhan, Senior Manager from DEF, Mohammad Niyaz and Shah Alam from DEF. There were approximately 350 local guests at the event.

There was a small cultural show that was organized at the event. The Sarpanch, Chudamani Naik, was felicitated by Lalit Mahara for her exceptional work in her Panchayat. The guests enjoyed the tribal dance performance 'Munda'.
At the end of the cultural show, there was a contest organized at the venue that received a lot of enthusiasm from the guests. All the winners received gifts from the Vodafone Foundation.
